Watford scored three late goals to win Javi Gracia’s first home game in charge in an “unforgettable night” for their manager and increase the pressure on Chelsea counterpart Antonio Conte.
The win means the defending champions remain on fourth position with 50 points ahead of their next match at West Brom before they face the big two Manchester tests which is said to be the major determinants of Conte’s continuity as Chelsea boss.
According to report from BBC Sport, before the game, Conte took the unusual step of asking the club to release a statement backing him – following their heavy home loss to Bournemouth. That request was not granted to the Italian manager and obviously may not be granted even after the loss at Watford.
Aside the fact that Chelsea failed to increase their points, they have also lost consecutive Premier League games by a three-goal margin for the first time since October 1995 (4-1 v Manchester United, 3-0 v Blackburn).
Conte’s men displayed a very poor performance that clearly showed that they deserve no point from the match, with just three shots on target as against Watford’s eight shots on target which eventually produced 4 goals.
Club owner Roman Abrahamovic may not have made a comment on the current situation, but the Russian billionaire is well known for being an impatient person who may take action soon on the Italian manager.
