For France it was as if they have already won the World Cup after Umtiti’s one goal handed the French side a victory that ensured they reached their third final in 20 years and pursue their second World Cup title.
The fact that France defeated Brazil and Belgium en route their reaching the final, is enough to send warning to whoever emerges as winner between Croatia and England that the French side mean business and are looking forward to take the prestigious title home.
Belgium had higher prospect to become champions after eliminating five-time champions Brazil in the quarterfinal stage, but that dream was swept aside by a French side that was more determined to reach their second final since 2006 when Italy denied them the title in Germany.
The victory means the golden generation of the Belgian side which consist of Eden Hazard, Kelvin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku have also failed to deliver their side against a France team that have beaten Belgium three times in World Cup matches more than they have beaten any other side in the competition.
So far France also inflicted on Belgium their first ever defeat of any kind since a friendly loss against Spain in September 2016, which now makes them to pursue the third place match in their final match of the tournament.
Any team that could eliminate a Belgium side that has not lost a single match since 2016 must be praised and, and for France to have accomplished such task, then it means they are as good as winning the title.
